Downsizing To Go Rogue

I still remember the feeling that went through my body while I sat on my bedroom floor, as I sorted my personal belongings into two piles.

Sadness, anger, disappointment, everything but happiness.

It seemed to be a neverending rippling effect of emotions. One emotion would cause another emotion to surface, which then led another emotion to emerge, so on and so forth.

When I had finally finished sorting through all of my inanimate objects, I stared at the two piles. Both were drastically different in size and frankly, the bigger one was headed to my local Goodwill the next morning.

More than half my clothes was leaving my possession, so was three-quarters of my shoes, and the entirety of my furniture.

Why?

Because my boyfriend and I were downsizing from the comfort of our rented room to the backseats of our 2008 Prius.

August 1st of 2018, was the beginning of a new way of life for us.

We weren't hit with misfortune, we weren't financially burdened, we weren't drowning in any sort of debt. In fact, we were finically stable. Our car was completely payed off, I had paid off all my students loans, our credit cards were always paid in full, and we both had a decent savings account.

We intentionally decided to go rogue and live in our Prius. We actually did a few modifications to the Prius for our "big move" such as, tinting the windows for privacy, adding rain guards so others couldn't notice the windows being cracked at night and we also purchased padding and different bed linens to make our new "bed" as comfortable as possible.

But regardless of the mental and physical preparation for move in day, downsizing was hard. It was everything but easy. Leaving the standard norm of living was difficult and no preparation could have made it easier.

But little did I know then, that freedom would be found in a Prius.

  1. here's the thing: next time, please post a lot more blog posts before you advertise on reddit, etc. Otherwise, all your first-time visitors will see nothing but just your intro post, and be like "why should i sub?" and leave permanently.

    1. Hey! I appreciate your feedback, i intended to post quite often after my first post. However, i just recently moved to a new state and it definitely messed with my plans.

I want to devote time to this blog because it is a story that no one in my life knows about, not my family or friends.

So this blog is definitely an outlet for me that still allows me to keep my privacy.
